Karen Crisler

 

Karen was born in Jacksonville, Florida, and was first introduced to clay while living in Madrid, Spain during a gap year. She immediately fell in love and came back to the states to study Fine Arts, with a focus in ceramics at Florida State University. While getting her degree she interned with potter Julie Guyot for several years. After graduating she worked for Honeycomb Studio, a small batch slip casting studio in Atlanta Georgia. She began creating her own work in 2020 under the name "Swallowtail Studio". 

"My work is often hand-carved, creating detailed texture. I want my work to push back on the need for efficiency to be king. I'm not interested in mass producing work, but rather want each piece to be unique and detailed - for the user to know they are touching something handmade. I strive for my pieces to be both whimsical and gentle - they may not catch someone's attention on the first glance, but they will be a constant friend if you are willing to slow down enough to give them the attention they deserve."
