Lesley Anton studied Interior Design and Ceramics before getting a BFA in Graphic Design and Illustration at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
Lesley Anton's journey as a ceramic artist took an unconventional turn when challenged to create unique ceramic lamps for the high-end modern interior design industry in Los Angeles. In 2001 she founded Lesley Anton Handmade Ceramic Lighting.
Nationally represented by interior design showrooms for nearly 15 years, this collection featured a combination of luscious high-fire reduction glazes and hand-turned wood accents. Along with developing the lighting company, Lesley also maintained wholesale accounts for her functional pottery from 2011- 2015 selling to craft and design retail shops and galleries nationwide.
After a recent move to Georgia, Lesley has been devoting her time to developing her point of view, working currently out of Callenwolde Art Center until a new studio situation reveals itself.
"My ceramic art reflects my deep connection to the natural and machine-made worlds. Through clay, I strive to capture the beauty of the colors, textures and shapes we see on our everyday journey. I make wheel-thrown functional tableware and vessels, fired predominantly to cone 6 in an electric kiln. My goal is to create functional work that exhibits the mid-century glaze palate that I continue to be drawn to, ultimately evoking the need to touch."
