Philip Moulthrop created this ambitious mosaic vessel using a technique that he pioneered in the 1990's. He created this labor-intensive method because he wanted to make forms using multiple woods in contrast to his well known vessels made from a single piece of wood. Moulthrop mixes cross sections from branches of different woods with black resin to create these vessels. This mosaic vessel is made of cedar, pine, mahonia, oak, and sweet gum and measures 8.5" x 12.5". Reference 22PM1827 if calling the gallery to inquire. In 1993, a mosaic bowl was selected for the newly established White House crafts collection.

Bought one of his pieces at the High Museum. I can't stop loving it. This is by far one of the best modern ceramic pieces I have a pleasure of owning. Can't wait to see what he will come up with next. Thank you.
