This beautiful sweetgrass basket is oblong in shape and features a stylized loop at its base and handle. It measures 8.75 x 11 x 14" and is made of sweetgrass, bulrush, and palmetto fronds. The artist of this basket is unfortunately unknown. Please reference 21SK09 if calling to inquire.

The techniques used to create sweetgrass baskets originated in West Africa and were brought to the Lowcountry by enslaved African peoples. The tradition of sweetgrass basket weaving has been passed down through many generations and is a symbol of the important cultural and craft contributions of the Gullah-Geechee people to the Southeast.
