This distinctive type of ceramic face vessel first appeared in the American South in the mid-1800s. Jugs such as these are attributed to a small number of black slaves working as potters in the Edgefield District of South Carolina. This pottery tradition continues to be of significant interest today for many contemporary potters living in the south. It is made of stoneware and measures 9 x 6 x 6". Bought one of his pieces at the High Museum. I can't stop loving it. This is by far one of the best modern ceramic pieces I have a pleasure of owning. Can't wait to see what he will come up with next. Thank you.
